Police are looking into a shooting in downtown Oakland that began because of a disturbance on a train.
The incident happened just before 1 a.m. Wednesday at the Oakland-Monteverde station.
One of the passengers, who did not wish to be identified, told NBC Bay Area’s sister station KGO that the train was stopped while waiting for a stop in San Francisco. The train conductor stopped the train and asked the passengers if they needed to go on.
During the discussion, several passengers began arguing, the person said. The train conductor also asked, “Do you like the way I’ve been treating you?” the passenger said.
During the altercation, a man fired a shot from an unidentified handgun at the train conductor, said Sgt. Michael Andraychak.
“He was not hit or harmed during this incident,” Andraychak said.
No one outside the train was injured in the shooting, he added.
The incident remains under investigation, Andraychak said. Officers are notifying passengers about a surveillance video, he said. Andraychak did not respond to a request for comment about the location of the surveillance footage.
